Until the Light Take Us
Title: Until the Light Take Us
Release Date: December 4, 2009
A documentary that digs deep in the Norwegian black metal movement in the 90's. The movie follows Gylve "Fenriz" Nagell, drummer of Darkthrone, and Varg Vikerness, the man behind one man band Burzum. The first never got too involved with the ideology behind the movement, although his band released a genre defining album with "A Blaze in the Northern Sky". The late, got so involved and obsessed with the ideology that murdered one of his friends, Euronymous, guitarrist of Mayhem, due to ideological conflicts, and was condemned to a 21-year sentence in prison. The movie offers plenty of unbelievable interviews and scenes like Varg Vikerness telling how he murdered Euronymous and Frost, drummer of Satyricon, cutting himself as a form of "art". Norwegian Black Metal was definitely a ground breaking movement in music, but it took things a little too far and that is very well pictured in this documentary.
Reality: 7.5/10
